CITIZENS USE OF SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITIES

CAROLINE COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release

April 2, 2020

Charles M. Culley, Jr. County Administrator

Caroline County Solid Waste Convenience Sites remain open for regular operating hours.  All convenience sites are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M., and Sunday from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. All convenience sites remain closed on Wednesdays.  The “Second Hand Goods” program is suspended at all convenience sites until further notice.

Caroline County is urging residents to limit use of the convenience centers for essential waste disposal only.  Extremely high usage from home cleaning projects and other activities has created a surge in volume and resulted in temporary shutdowns at disposal landfills throughout the state.  This has become a limiting factor in the County’s ability to dispose of solid waste and is expected to get worse.

The County is requesting that residents consolidate loads and limit trips to the solid waste convenience sites. Residents are asked to maintain a distance of at least six feet from all staff and other users and practice personal hygiene measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when visiting your local solid waste convenience center and recycling facilities.

Questions should be directed to the Department of Public Works – Solid Waste Division at (804) 633-4144.
