NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Proposed AMENDMENT OF the CODE OF CAROLINE COUNTY Chapter 103, TAXATION TO ADD article VI C, §103-46.6. personal property tax exemption for qualifying disabled veterans

 The Caroline County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, beginning at 7:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, in the Community Services Center Auditorium, located at 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia, to consider amendments to Chapter 103, Taxation of the Code of Caroline County, Virginia to add Article VI C, §103-46.6. Personal Property Tax Exemption for Qualifying Disabled Veterans.

The purpose of the proposed amendments is to:

  1. Codify in the Code of Caroline County a new state law providing that one motor vehicle (a passenger car or pickup or panel truck only) owned and used primarily by or for a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States or the Virginia National Guard who has been rated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs with a 100 percent, service-connected, permanent and total disability shall be exempt from taxation beginning on the date the motor vehicle is acquired or January 1, 2021, whichever is later; and
  2. Specify that veterans who qualify for an exemption from taxation on one vehicle as described above are not also eligible for a tax reduction on an additional vehicle under Chapter 103, Article VI B, §103-46.5 Alternative Personal Property Tax Rate for Qualifying Disabled Veterans of the Code of Caroline County, Virginia.

Any person desiring to be heard in favor of or in opposition to the proposed amendments is hereby invited to be present at the public hearing. Those citizens with special needs are asked to contact County Administration at (804) 633-5380 at least 5 days prior to the hearing.
