Cooper, Gotschalk top 2010 grads


MILFORD - Caroline High School is proud to announce Brandon E. Cooper as the valedictorian of the Class of 2010. Brandon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Cooper of Bowling Green. Graduating from Caroline High School and Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School for Marine and Environmental Science with a cumulative GPA of 4.754, he plans to attend the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech in the fall.

For the duration of his four years at Caroline High School, he has achieved many accomplishments and academic distinctions. From grades 9-12, he received Honor Roll, getting all A’s on his report cards. Because of his strong academic performance, he received an Academic Letter for all four years. In his sophomore and junior years, he played for the Caroline High School JV/Varsity Golf team.

In his freshmen and sophomore years, he was a member and later secretary of the Youth Ambassadors of Caroline. As a club, they performed many community service projects. Having fulfilled the GPA criteria of 3.5 and having possessed the necessary qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, he was inducted into the prestigious National Honor Society in the fall of his junior year. He took hold of the reins and was elected president of the club, promising to increase community service projects and re-establishing better representation of the club. He also dedicated his time to the community by assisting with the program Adopt-a-Highway and performed community service projects within Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School.

During the spring of his junior year, he obtained a job at one of the most interesting and captivating retail stores in the country, Bass Pro Shops. Currently, he is still employed there as a retail/sales associate in the Gifts Department. When not busy working, Brandon enjoys spending time with his family, hanging out with his friends, hunting, riding four wheelers, and vacationing at Nags Head, North Carolina. With a sound source of work ethic already under his belt, he is confident with a little hard work and determination his future will be bright.

Salutatorian announced
Caroline High School is proud to announce Emily J. Gotschalk as the salutatorian of the Class of 2010. She is the daughter of Lee and Julie Gotschalk of Sparta, VA. She graduated from Caroline High School and the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School for Marine and Environmental Science with an Advanced Studies diploma and a cumulative GPA of 4.6889. She graduated as an Early College Scholar. She earned straight A’s throughout her high school career. She will be attending Christopher Newport University in the fall and participate in CNU’s Presidential Leadership Program and Honor’s Program.

During her freshmen and sophomore years, Emily was a member of Caroline’s Promise Youth Ambassadors. She was a member of the National Honor Society her junior and senior years. In her senior year, she served as Treasurer. She was a four year, dedicated member of the Caroline High School yearbook staff, serving as yearbook editor in the 12th grade.

Emily has taken dance classes at Shuffles Dance Center of Mechanicsville for the past 11 years and is a part of the pre-professional companies at Shuffles. In her senior year, she worked as an assistant ballet instructor. Emily also works at King’s Dominion for the Entertainment Department in two shows featuring the Peanuts characters. She enjoys dancing, spending time with friends, spending time on the lake where she lives, traveling, and reading. She is an active member of Salem Baptist Church.
