Senior Gala December 1
From The Caroline Progress

The Rotary Club of Caroline will throw its annual Senior Gala for senior citizens December 1 at Caroline High School. The event, held in the school gymnasium, includes a three-course gourmet dinner, entertainment, raffles and gifts. The meal is prepared and served by school culinary arts teacher Jasper Morton and students working under his supervision.

The high school band and chorus will perform Christmas music while the senior citizen guests arrive. In addition, "Bubba" Johnson and the Omega Sister Singers will perform along with Cora Armstrong. Every senior citizen receives individual Christmas gifts and the table decorations at the end of the evening. Monetary gifts are also given with the largest being $500. This year the Rotary Club will offer a piece of furniture donated by Value City.

Last year's gala drew more than 450 people. In the early years of the event, which began in 1999, attendance was about 50 people. The gala draws a wide range of senior citizens, including some in wheel chairs. The Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging provides transportation for those in wheelchairs, and the school Interact, Beta and National Honor Society clubs assist them getting on and off the buses.

The Senior Gala is a community partnership of all ages as the Rotary Cub and the high school and its student organizations work together to sponsor an evening of fun for the county's senior citizens and elderly. The event also is supported by businesses, a local nursing home, individuals, and the Caroline County Board of Supervisors. The theme of this year¹s event is "A Gala to Be Remembered."
