All of our programs have set deadlines to allow us ample time to plan. Please help us by registering by the deadline.

Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registration for each program is one month in advance of the listed month on a first come first serve basis. Call for additional programming information. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN REGISTRATION FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE FORMS TO US. COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order for us to be successful in making this a healthier and more delightful Community, we believe it is essential that we take a collaborative approach.

This approach consist of you assisting the department in promoting and encouraging others to take advantage of the services that are provided on this calendar.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

making a friendlier environment;

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;

displaying benevolence.

We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.




DISCOUNTS

These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. SUMMER EXPLORATION DAY CAMP

S.A.F.E. Summer Adventures thru Fun and Enrichment

Theme: "Amusement in the Camp"

Description: Enjoy arts and crafts, fun sport competitions, organized games, thematic special events, and weekly field trips at this enrichment camp.

Dates::June 23 - August 8, 2014 (Monday through Friday except Holidays)

For Ages: 5 - 12 5 year olds must have completed kindergarten

Enrollment Deadline: June 6 or until full

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Karate (Isshinryu)

Karate Girl

Learn the fundamental techniques and the history of isshinryu karate, self-defense, discipline, as well as, stretching exercises. Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate basic hand and kicking techniques.

Ages: 5-Adult

Description:The 6-8 hour Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. This course is usually 6-8 hours in length but students are required to complete the self-study prior to class. Although students do NOT have to prove completion of self-study, the final exam will include material covered in the self-study portion. More information on the 6-8 hour course can be found here.

Making Art on a Limited Budget (Art for Seniors)

Description: Participants will learn how to make wonderful art using supplies that are available at dollar stores and Walmart. Many of the supplies can be found in your home. There will be samples and brainstorming to assist participants in choosing the themes for their art work at the beginning of each session.

1) Collage - Participants can choose from different themes and will create a story telling collage. Supplies - Elmers glue, an 8x10 heavy piece of corrugated cardboard, scissors, color construction paper, magazine photos and a glue stick. Participants may also want to try this with either a coffee can or small gift box.

2) Watercolor Painting - Participants will work from a photo to create a landscape with water colors. Supplies - Watercolor set, #2 pencil and eraser, heavy paper, and maybe some extra brushes. (Bring some photos that you might like to work from)

3) Drawing 1 - Participants will try their hand at pointillism where they blend colors by mixing dots of color with the markers. Supplies - A small set of color markers, paper, pencils, (Bring some photos that you might like to work from)

4) Drawing 2 - Participants will try their hand at blending color with either color pencils or crayons. Supplies - Color pencils, paper and crayons, (Bring some photos that you might like to work from)

Supplies - Elmer's glue, water color set, scissors, multi color construction paper, scissors, water based color markers, # 2 pencil, eraser, color paper, crayons a pad of heavy art paper. All of these supplies can be found at local stores. Crayola products are the best, but Rose Arts make pretty good quality products also.

Description: Participants will have the opportunity to continue playing the game after high school and college with and against others who have played and desires to continue participating.

Begins: Thursday, June 12, 2014

Boys and Girls Summer Basketball League

Playing Basketball

Description: Participants will be coached by volunteers and will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of the game, skills, rules, and team work during practices and the play of organized games.

Ages:  Girls - 10-12, 13-15; Boys - 8-10, 11-13, 14-17

Co-Ed Softball League for Adults

Description: Bring your own co-ed softball team and swing away in ths slow pitch league. Limited number of teams will be accepted for this league. Get your team and hurry out to registger for this summer league.

British Challenger Soccer Camp



Ages:3-13

Fee:$86 ages 3 & 4, $100 ages 5 & 6, $135 ages 7-14

Soccer Skills Clinic



Description: Learn to work in small groups and build confidence while learning how to master the ball while participating in a variety of drills. The participant will develop dribbling efficiency, passing and foot control.

Football
Youth development and instructional league. Games are played on Saturdays and traveling will be required except for flag league. ***Weight Limit Requirements Per division, Except Flag****

Age Divisions:
5-6 (flag) No weight limit
7 & 8 (Pee Wee Tackle) 85lbs for ages 6 & 7, 8 years old 75 lbs.
8-10 (JV tackle) 135 lbs max
11-13 (Varsity tackle) 155 lbs max

Date: Begins early August 2014

Deadline: First come, first served until rosters are filled

Fee: $75 per child (tackle) $35 per child (for flag division)



Fall Soccer League

Description: This league is designed to enhance social development, teach and improve the various skills and knowledge pertaining to the game of soccer in a fun, recreational atmosphere. Games will be scheduled for Saturday mornings. Practice will be held once a week before games begin. Practice day and time will be determined by the coach. Uniforms will be issued out by the department all other equipment will have to be provided by parents.

Begins: Late August 2014

Deadline: July 18, 2014

Age Divisions: 4-5; 6-8; 9-11;12-15

Fee: $35 per player $10.00 late registration fee

Teens F.I.E.R.C.E. About Skills Camp II

FIERCE

Description: This a week's long program that stimulates Fun, Initiative, Energy, Readiness, Commitment, and Eagerness for skills. If you desire to develop these skills, get F.I.E.R.C.E. about registering now. participants will display these skills as a chef, participating on field trips, seminars, social gathering, and recreation activities in the gym.

Begins: July 7 - 30, 2014 (Mondays and Wednesdays)

Ages: 12 - 17

Cost: $50.00 (includes lunch)

Teen's Jam Fest "N-D" House

Description: Is your teenager looking for an evening to hang out with other teens? Come-out and enjoy an evening of great music from local teenage and young adult amateur singing groups, food, prizes, activities and much more in our County Park. We are striving to give our teens and young adults the opportunity to display their talents amongst their peers. If you have a singing group and would like to become a part of this teen fest, contact Caroline County Parks and Recreation Department. All music lyrics must be pre-approved by the Director.

Description: Seniors and mature adults, your latter years can be better than your former by participating in this exercise class for social interacting, and for preventing and/or alleviating unwanted pains in the joints. Come join this low impact chair exercise program that will improve your mental as well as physical health. There are also opportunities to receive door prizes.

"Get Up & Move Something!" Walking Program

Description: Instead of sitting an hour while you wait for your child to practice their sport or activity, utilize that time to Get Up and Move Something! Register wit the Parks and Rec Department to participate in this effort to encourage fitness, eliminate inactivity, and maintaining healthy bodies. More information will be provided at the orientation of your child's program.

Begins: Start up of child's activity

Locations:
Caroline Rec Park -
During Soccer, Football, or Cheerleading Practices, utilize the fields by walking the outside perimeter of where the kids practice, walk the walking trail or walk a mile or two around the high school track (4 times around=1 mile).

Former Diversified Learning Center (Ladysmith) -
During Karate and Tap & Ballet, utilize that time and walk the track (5 times around).

Cost: Free


Zumba

Zumba

Description: Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.

Ages: 14 and above

Fee: $5.00 per person per class

or Tuesdays and Thursdays at CDLC Cafeteria
