All of our programs have set deadlines to allow us ample time to plan. Please help us by registering by the deadline.

Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

REGISTRATION FORMS

Registration for each program is one month in advance of the listed month on a first come first serve basis. Call for additional programming information. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN REGISTRATION FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE FORMS TO US. Please fill out and return your form by mail to Caroline County Parks & Recreation at PO Box 447, Bowling Green, VA 22427 or in person to 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford (In the Community Services Center Building). Registration and Waiver Forms can be found at the bottom of this page.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order for us to be successful in making this a healthier and more delightful Community, we believe it is essential that we take a collaborative approach.

This approach consist of you assisting the department in promoting and encouraging others to take advantage of the services that are provided on this calendar.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

making a friendlier environment;

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;

displaying benevolence.

We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.




DISCOUNTS

These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. For cancellations, listen to VA 101.5 FM or WFLS 93.3 FM call 804-633-7277, check here on the website, or like us on Facebook.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

D.I.V.A.S. with Promise (Devoted Individuals Valuing Another & Self)



Description: Girls' mentoring program that provides leadership, build self-esteem, etiquette, and opportunities for community outreach

For: Girls in grades 6 - 12th

Meetings Days & Time: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

B.A.L.M. (Becoming a Leading Man): (Boys Mentoring Program)

For grades 3rd - 5th

Description: Our young males are faced with challenges of all kinds on a daily basis, but through mentoring we hope they will make   productive choices, build healthy relationships, give back to their  community, resolve conflict and become leading males.   Participants will also be taken occasionally on field trips. your child will meet one evening a the Community Services Center once a  month during the school year from 6:00-8:00 pm; beginning October 15th.

*A fee will be required for field trips.

INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES


Karate (Isshinryu)

Karate Girl

Learn the fundamental techniques and the history of isshinryu karate, self-defense, discipline, as well as, stretching exercises. Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate basic hand and kicking techniques.

Ages: 5-Adult

Fee: $35.00 p/p - $45 after deadline (one week prior to starting date)

Begins: December 2, 2014 (eight weeks)

Location: Former Caroline Diversified Learning Center (gymnasium, entrance located in the back of the school)

Description: Participants will be instructed the basic cheerleading skills and be introduced to the learning of various cheers, chants routines, and jumps. Participants will be taught how to perform with the use of pom-poms in preparation for cheering at selected parks and recreation youth sporting activities.

Description: Participant will have the opportunity to learn surprising things about hooks, yarn, read basic patterns and diagrams, make samples of stitch patterns and learn to write simple instructions for personal designs.

Hunter Safety

Description:The 6-8 hour Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. This course is usually 6-8 hours in length but students are required to complete the self-study prior to class. Although students do NOT have to prove completion of self-study, the final exam will include material covered in the self-study portion. More information on the 6-8 hour course can be found here.

Location: Caroline County Community Services Center (Emergency Operations Center)

Students ages 3 - 8 will learn beginner tap and ballet technique while having fun with sounds, rhythm and creative movements. Tap shoes are required for this class but can be purchased at Pay less, Target or sometimes Once Upon a Child consignment.

Firecrackers Jazz/Hip Hop & Dance/Cheer Technique

Description: Students ages 5 - 12 will enjoy working on dance and cheer technique with their friends. Parents will love that their children are getting rid of excess energy left over from school. Students will enjoy the hip hop and jazz routines that they will learn each day.

Description: Seniors and mature adults, your latter years can be better than your former by participating in this exercise class for social interacting, and for preventing and/or alleviating unwanted pains in the joints. Come join this low impact chair exercise program that will improve your mental as well as physical health. There are also opportunities to receive door prizes.

Morning Fitness, Fun and Bingo for Seniors 55 & Older

"Get Up & Move Something!" Walking Program

Description: Instead of sitting an hour while you wait for your child to practice their sport or activity, utilize that time to Get Up and Move Something! Register wit the Parks and Rec Department to participate in this effort to encourage fitness, eliminate inactivity, and maintaining healthy bodies. More information will be provided at the orientation of your child's program.

Begins: Start up of child's activity

Caroline Rec Park -
During Soccer, Football, or Cheerleading Practices, utilize the fields by walking the outside perimeter of where the kids practice, walk the walking trail or walk a mile or two around the high school track (4 times around=1 mile).

Former Diversified Learning Center (Ladysmith) -
During Karate and Tap & Ballet, utilize that time and walk the track (5 times around).

Zumba

Zumba

Description: Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.

Ages: 14 and above
