The Caroline Karate Club held its' 20th Anniversary Celebration on April 7. Mr. Raymond Blazer was acknowledged for his efforts in getting the program to the level that it currently is. Over 3000 registrants have come through the program since 1991.

Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registration for each program is one month in advance of the listed month on a first come first serve basis. Call for additional programming information. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN REGISTRATION FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE FORMS TO US. Please fill out and return your form by mail to Caroline County Parks & Recreation at PO Box 447, Bowling Green, VA 22427 or in person to 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford (In the Community Services Center Building). COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order for us to be successful in making this a healthier and more delightful Community, we believe it is essential that we take a collaborative approach.

This approach consist of you assisting the department in promoting and encouraging others to take advantage of the services that are provided on this calendar.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

making a friendlier environment;

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;

displaying benevolence.

We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.




DISCOUNTS

These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. This is a mentoring program for young ladies in middle and high school. Our primary focus is to empower the young ladies with the skills needed for success in the year and beyond. Focuses are on Exploration of talents and abilities, Exposure to diverse opportunities in and outside our community, and Motivation to achieve excellence in daily living and long term endeavors.

Description: Gross Me Out - Winter Session
Examine the slimy, yet fascinating, underbelly of science. As a junior gross-ologist you will examine the creepy, crawly world of bugs on your way to making a batch of ooey-gooey slime. Proper lab techniques are essential as we do our CSI imitation to solve the crime. Get up close and personal as we map the tongue's taste centers, cook up some kitchen chemistry and uncover the weird things hanging out on our money. Have no worries, lots of hand sanitizer will keep our nasty discoveries under control.

Description: Fun-ky Physics - Spring Session
Where would we be without the tinkerers, inventors and engineers who make our lives easier through their amazing contraptions? These classes provide hands-on fun as we make things twirl, fling and fly through the air. Understand the air around us on the way to making the world's best paper airplanes, powerful balls of air and a remarkable Lightning Launcher. Explore the science behind some of our favorite toys and apply all we have learned in the Great Bridge Challenge!

Description:Get lessons from some of the best in the nation! This camp will be conducted by college players from Great Britain. Many soccer drills and learning activities from the beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Volunteer coaches are trained to coach and are pre-approved based on a criminal background check clearance.

"High Five" Summer Basketball Camp

Description: Try our Summer Basketball Camp. All camps are designed to teach basic fundamentals through team and individual drills as well as scrimmages. All levels stress teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. The camps for younger children will focus on shooting, dribbling and basic defense. The camps for older children will reinforce the fundamentals as well as teach rebounding, screens, pick and rolls, zone and man-to-man defense, and some offensive sets, etc. All participants will receive a camp t-shirt. Uniforms will be issued out by the department all other equipment will have to be provided by parents.

Zumba Fitness
Zumba
Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.

Ages: 16 and above

Description: This class is available for all that are excited about learning or becoming advance at crocheting, knitting, and quilting. The art of learning to stitch and reading and understanding patterns will be provided to you through this class. Join us and see what your hands can do with a little help.

Women's Self Defense Classes
Women's Self Defense

Description: Learn how you can empower yourself to not become a victim of a violent attack. The class presents an overview of the defense challenges for women of all ages from awareness of surroundings to avoiding dangerous situations and physical defense. Participants will learn how they can protect themselves against attacks by utilizing different defense strategies. They will receive instruction on how their body can be used as a weapon and what to do if attached. The class is taught by certified instructor from the Caroline Karate Club. The chief instruction has over 30 years of experience teaching self defense to women.

Description: Did you ever wonder what it would be like to study karate? Here's your chance to get a taste of a traditional karate class. The Caroline Karate Club is providing a series of 3 hour mini-camps in Isshinryu Karate. We'll cover basic stances and techniques as well as give you an overview of the many other activities that are part of our club. Learn self discipline, Self awareness, and self defense. Afterwards you'll be invited to come and join our club. The instructors are certified black belts with between 8 and 34 years of experience studying and teaching Isshinryu Karate.

Hunter Safety
Description: First time hunters and hunters 12 to 15 years of age are required to complete the Hunter Education Course. Successful completion of a written or verbal exam is required in all hunter education program courses. Hunter Education courses are designed to teach hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. Participants will receive instruction and certification on gun safety with completion of the 3 day course.

Getting Paid to Talk Class

Ever been told you have a great voice? From audio books and cartoons to documentaries, commercials, and more, this class will introduce you to the growing field of voice over. Today, the range of voices hired has grown dramatically from the days of announcers. Learn what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in your area! We'll discuss industry pros and cons and play samples from working voice professionals. In addition, you'll have an opportunity to record a short professional script under the direction of our teacher.
