All of our programs have set deadlines to allow us ample time to plan. Please help us by registering by the deadline.

Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registration for each program is one month in advance of the listed month on a first come first serve basis. Call for additional programming information. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN REGISTRATION FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE FORMS TO US. COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order for us to be successful in making this a healthier and more delightful Community, we believe it is essential that we take a collaborative approach.

This approach consist of you assisting the department in promoting and encouraging others to take advantage of the services that are provided on this calendar.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

making a friendlier environment;

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;

displaying benevolence.

We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.




DISCOUNTS

These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

D.I.V.A.S. with Promise (Devoted Individuals Valuing Another & Self)



Description: This is a mentoring program that is designed to empower young girls with the skills essential for success. Focuses are on exploration of talents and abilities, exposure to diverse opportunities, and motivation to achieve excellence in daily and long term endeavors.

For: Girls in grades 6 - 12th

Meetings Days & Time: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month after school

B.A.L.M. (Becoming a Leading Man): (Boys Mentoring Program)

For grades 3rd - 5th

Description: Our young males are faced with challenges of all kinds on a daily basis, but through mentoring we hope they will make   productive choices, build healthy relationships, give back to their  community, resolve conflict and become leading males.

Description: Parents would you like a little more free time? Enroll your child in this after school program. This is the perfect way for your child to conclude the day and burn off some of that excess energy before coming home. Participants will be offered the opportunity to participate in various activities and games in a structured environment with others their ages. Snacks will be provided for participating students.

Learn the fundamental techniques and the history of isshinryu karate, self-defense, discipline, as well as, stretching exercises. Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate basic hand and kicking techniques.

Hunter Safety

Description:The 6-8 hour Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. This course is usually 6-8 hours in length but students are required to complete the self-study prior to class. Although students do NOT have to prove completion of self-study, the final exam will include material covered in the self-study portion. More information on the 6-8 hour course can be found here.

Hot Shot Competition

Description:Hot Shot is a fast-paced, timed basketball shooting competition. Individual players will have 60 seconds to attempt to make baskets from (5) "Hot Spots" marked on one-half of a basketball court. Points are awarded for each successful shot and a final score is calculated. After an appropriate number of rounds, the top scorer within each division will be declared the winner. 1, 2, 3, place winners will receive a trophy.

Description: Just can't move like you used to but enjoy being around the game of basketball? Join us by participating in this hoops shooting tournament and take home the honors of being the best female hoops shooter. Participants will compete agains opponents from various locaitons on the floor and receive points per basket made. The person with the most points at the end of the elpsed time will advance in the tournament. Participants will play at least 3 rounds before eliminated. Participants finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd place will receive an award.

Come join this low impact chair exercise program that will improve your mental as well as physical health. There are also opportunities to receive door prizes.

"Get Up & Move Something!" Walking Program

Description: Instead of sitting an hour while you wait for your child to practice their sport or activity, utilize that time to Get Up and Move Something! Register wit the Parks and Rec Department to participate in this effort to encourage fitness, eliminate inactivity, and maintaining healthy bodies. More information will be provided at the orientation of your child's program.

Begins: Start up of child's activity

Locations:
Caroline Rec Park -
During Soccer, Football, or Cheerleading Practices, utilize the fields by walking the outside perimeter of where the kids practice, walk the walking trail or walk a mile or two around the high school track (4 times around=1 mile).

Former Diversified Learning Center (Ladysmith) -
During Karate and Tap & Ballet, utilize that time and walk the track (5 times around).

Zumba

Zumba

Description: Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.
