Though the sun sizzled Saturday, June 12, the congregation of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dawn persevered through the heat to raise $1,240 for the new Dawn Library. As the temperature rose to 94 and the humidity grew thick, the flea market vendors stayed with their yard sale tables until noon and by then the men of Second Mt. Zion had their fish fry ready. The heaping plates included homemade potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans. And then there was dessert.

"We are grateful to Second Mt. Zion for sponsoring this event and for all of those who helped make it a success," said Gladys Norris, treasurer of the Dawn Library Committee. In July, raffle tickets will go on sale for a 37-inch Vizio LCD HDTV and two gas cards – one for $100 and one for $50 – with drawings taking place at 8 p.m., Saturday, July 17, at the Caroline County Agricultural Fair. You do not have to be present to win.

You can also visit www.refresheverything.com and vote for the Dawn Project to help win the Pepsi Refresh Grant Proposal which would provide the library with $250,000.
