Matiak Appointed Volunteer
Deputy Chief for F&R
Fire-EMS Chief David Layman has appointed Ricky Matiak as Volunteer Deputy Chief.
Matiak is a life member of the Ladysmith Volunteer Fire Department with over 30 years of Fire and Rescue experience. He is currently employed as a Lieutenant with Chesterfield Fire Department.
The new position fulfills one of the remaining recommendations of the 2006 Fire Services Board study. The position will focus on volunteer operations, including the standardization of response policies, promoting safety practices and responder accountability. It will also offer a mentor for district line officers throughout the County.
“The consolidation of our Department has greatly increased the demands placed on our Administration,” commented Chief Layman through a statement announcing the appointment. “This position helps fill a critical void in our command staff as well as allows for continuity of succession planning. [The position] will allow us to continue to provide efficient operational and administrative services.”
Matiak will assume his duties April 1.
