Layman Resigns Post as Fire-EMS Chief
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 16, 2011
Caroline County Fire-EMS Chief David Layman has resigned his position to accept an offer to become Fire Chief in the City of Hampton, Virginia.
Layman began his tenure with Caroline on August 17, 2009 and served as the first Fire-EMS Chief for the County.
"This is a difficult loss for our organization" said Interim County Administrator Alan Partin. "Chief Layman has skillfully guided the County's emergency services system through the critical early stages of transitioning to a Fire-EMS Chief model. His professionalism, leadership abilities and dedication will be sorely missed. We thank him for his contributions to the citizens of Caroline County and wish him the best in his new position."
Layman praised career and volunteer fire and rescue staff for "their outstanding support and assistance" during his tenure in a farewell letter and thanked the Board of Supervisors, the Emergency Services Commission, former County Administrator Percy Ashcraft and Partin for "allowing me the privilege of serving Caroline County".
Deputy Chief Mark Garnett has been named Acting Fire-EMS Chief effective July 8. A search for a long-term replacement will begin immediately.
