Caroline County Exceeds
National Census Mail Average

Caroline County exceeded the national average for Census mail participation according to final figures just released by U.S. Census Bureau.

A total of 78 percent of County residents returned their form via mail earlier this year.  That is four percent above the national average of 74 percent.  The Commonwealth of Virginia matched Caroline’s average with 78 percent of state residents returning the forms.

Caroline’s two incorporated towns lagged behind the county and state averages.  Town of Bowling Green residents returned their Census forms at a 66 percent ratio, while the Town of Port Royal came in at 60 percent.

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors in 2009 established a Census committee to raise awareness of the importance of every resident to be counted.  The committee met throughout the year and was key in distributing information to the residents.
