BOS Approves Additional
Funding for School Projects


The Board of Supervisors at its September 21 meeting approved a request by the Public School Division to fund renovation projects.

Following a request by School Board Chairman Mack Wright and Superintendent Dr. Greg Killough, the BOS unanimously voted to approve $301,828 to replace HVAC units at the Bowling Green annex and to replace security doors at Caroline High School.

“These are items we just have to replace,” commented BOS Chairman Maxie Rozell. “When these things wear out, we have to fix them.”

Other matters before the Board of Supervisors:

  • Received a Caroline County flag that flew over Iraq from Army Captain Edward W. Lewis and Lt. Lester Smith.


  • Recognized longtime Dawn community advocate Irene Fields for her service on the Social Services Board and other activities.


  • Received a presentation from Parks and Recreation Director Donnell Howard on the Summer Enhancement Program.


  • Recommended Art Terry to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals from the Port Royal District.


  • Adopted a resolution on the Consent Agenda declaring October 3-9 Fire Prevention Awareness Week in Caroline County.


  • Approved amendments to the County noise ordinance to conform to state changes in the law.


  • Approved amendment to the zoning ordinance that allows the acceptance of proffers once a public hearing has begun.


  • Approved amendment to the zoning ordinance to allow replacement of a freestanding sign in the B-1 District in the Highway Corridor Overlay District, where the property is located outside of a designated growth area.


  • Deferred action on construction of Victory Park until the November 16 meeting of the BOS.


  • Advanced to public hearing on November 16 a zoning ordinance text amendment regarding height limitations in the M-1 Industrial District.


  • Advanced to public hearing on November 23 the establishment of a Backflow Prevention Ordinance.
