Connor Orrock had a lot to grin about on May 12 at the 63rd annual Fredericksburg 4-H/FFA Livestock Show. Orrock had won every category he entered his strapping Black Angus steer, Leroy. A quiet fellow and modest about winning the Grand Champion Market Steer award, Orrock would only say, "He's (Leroy) a really easy steer to work with--really laid back." Orrock also won his steer's weight class and the fitting and showmanship contest.
What Orrock doesn't brag about is his dedication to raising quality Angus cattle. The high schooler travels around the country showing his homegrown cattle at regionally and nationally ranked cattle shows. Orrock's steer Leroy was one of a few cattle shown at the Fredericksburg show that was raised from birth by the exhibitor. Leroy, Orrock says proudly, is out of one his best cows. Orrock was in good company with many of the Caroline 4-H Livestock Club members doing well in their respective classes. Club members showed cattle, sheep, goats and hogs.
Caroline Club winners took top honors in weight class, showmanship and the stockman's contest. Molly Moritz won a Novice award in the Stockman's Contest.
